On Saturday 19th April a number of TESSA members, as well as a few non-members, were welcomed by Dr Lambert Vorster to his home to view his extensive eclectic collection of artefacts that he has collected over many years and from many parts of the world. Too numerous to describe in detail, this fascinating assembly of objects ranges from ancient fossils and stone-age implements to 19th/20th century memorabilia. In between are a host of objects of historical interest, with pride of place going to the lid of an ancient Egyptian cedar-wood coffin dating to the 4th dynasty. Lambert also allowed the visitors to view his extensive library as well as his collection of works of art. So engrossed were they that members were reluctant to leave and had to be prised out to make their way to Die Herehuis restaurant for their pre-ordered lunch. Thereafter some of the group returned to the farm and the old wine cellars where Lambert explained the fascinating processes used in his daughter’s business Growing Paper. (For info see www.growingpaper.co.za) All in all this was a happily memorable outing, and our sincere thanks go to Dr Vorster for his kind hospitality and for the fascinating stories he had to tell.
